Property Description

For sale, the Torre di Clarignano, a piece of the oldest and noblest history of Umbria. The property, dating back to the 15th century, overlooks the hills surrounding the castle of Morcicchia, between Montefalco and Giano dell’Umbria, and is the last remaining evidence of a medieval complex belonging to the noble Clarignano family, originally from Montefalco, who owned a castle probably destroyed in the first half of the 14th century. In the previous century, it was considered part of the territory of Trevi, even though it stood on the border with Morcicchia and the Colle del Marchese, between Castel Ritaldi, Montefalco, and Giano. It is hypothesized that the castle, of which no trace remains, once stood where the current village of Colle del Marchese is, at the foot of the Martani Mountains. At the end of the 12th century, it was already held as a fief by the noble lords of Clarignano, vassals of the Church, who in 1213 transferred it to the Municipality of Spoleto, opting to submit to civic authority. In 2007, the property underwent a major overall intervention to consolidate the main structures, which preserved its condition and ensured its stability. The building, approximately 20 meters tall with external dimensions of about 7.5 x 7.5 meters in plan, is divided into three sections, separated by two barrel vaults and a floor, of different heights, plus a terrace from which you can enjoy a breathtaking view of the Umbrian countryside. The interior can be further subdivided by creating intermediate floors according to the intended use and project. The property includes a total of approximately 16 hectares of land. There are 150 olive trees, 90% of the Moraiolo variety, which produces excellent oil, 50 walnut trees of good quality and size, and about 600 Douglas fir trees for timber that are nearing maturity. On about two hectares of land where the firs are located, there are twelve truffle beds with good production.
