History of the site: In 1987, upon returning to Québec, Norm reached out to his longtime friend Alain Hill, owner of a vast tract of land in the Mauricie region, to ask permission to build a small camp. That moment marked the beginning of the adventure. His wife, Lise, suggested creating a place where the entire family could gather. Norm then began building a small stilt-mounted cabin, completed in 1995. It remained modest until 2003–2004, when the first major expansions were added. In 2005–2006, Lise and Norm partnered with two friends to develop an innovative and ambitious project on the site. Originally named La Forestière, the project was later renamed following the suggestion of a shareholder. The partners unanimously agreed to honor the Hill family, owners of the land — and so the estate became ForestHill. In 2016, after the foundation work was redone, the entire property underwent a complete renovation. ForestHill was envisioned as a high-quality recreational tourism destination in a municipality increasingly defined by this vocation. The site was designed to become a true forest-based artistic retreat with a spa. Blacksmithing, wood painting, and sculpture were the artistic disciplines planned for the venue. Natural baths, using the waterfalls on the property, were also part of the vision. To enhance the experience for future visitors, several accommodations and tipis were to be built throughout the grounds.
